Description |
The Copperbelt riding in Whitehorse is one of the newest ridings in the Yukon and also one of the largest. Since it was created in 2002 with the division of Whitehorse West, it has already grown by about 300 voters. It includes Hillcrest, Granger, Lobird, Squatters Road, McRae, Pineridge and parts of Copper Ridge. The Mount Sima ski hill and the Meadow Lakes golf course are within its boundaries as well as many businesses along the Alaska Highway.
With government plans to release more lots in the Copper Ridge area, the riding's population will likely continue to grow. A new school, promised in the 2005 byelection, will be a major issue.
