Zwickau is one of ten districts (Landkreis) established after the administrative reform of the Federal State of Saxony effected on August 1, 2008. Zwickau was formed by merger of the districts of Chemnitzer Land, Zwickauer Land and the (formerly) independent city of Zwickau. Zwickau is the smallest district in the Free State of Saxony.
