Description 40-seat inter-Emirati unicameral legislative body of the UAE, 20 of the members of which are elected, the remainder appointed. The 20 elected members are split among the seven Emirati states as 'colleges'. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are apportioned the lion's share at four members each, the colleges of Sharjah and Ras Al-Khaimah are entitled to place three members each, while Fujairah, Umm al-Quwain and Ajman elect two each.

Members, all 'independent', serve for four years.
