275-seat Lower House of the Federal Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
Elections were held for the Lower House on October 23, 2016 and November 10, 2016 under constricted circumstances due to instability in the country-side.
The UN sanctioned the appointment of 14,025 Somali delegates by 135 clan elders (called the 'Traditional Elders') from each of the constituent states which make up the Federal Republic (including, interestingly, independent Somaliland), to elect the 275 members of the Lower House.
Parliament members are not allowed to identify with a political party or call themselves 'independent'.
