Info | Joe Lutz, born c. 1951, was a Baptist minister in Salem, Oregon, who ran occasionally for political office. His most prominent race came in 1986, when he challenged US Senator Bob Packwood in the Republican primaries. His supporters launched an organization named the Oregon Citizens Alliance to coordinate among conservative Christians in the state and rally them to the polls. Lutz lost the primary, but thousands of his supporters wrote in his name in the fall election. Lutz later began a second campaign for the US Senate but wit hdrew from the race when news was leaked that Lutz had left his first wife to marry another woman and was behind in making child support payments.
