Info | born in Missoula, Missoula County, Mont., January 4, 1884; attended the public schools, the State University of Montana at Missoula, and the University of Notre Dame, Indiana; was graduated from Harvard University in 1906 and from the law department of Columbia University, New York City, in 1910; was admitted to the New York bar the same year; returned to Missoula, Mont.; was admitted to the Montana bar in 1911 and engaged in the practice of law; member of the State house of representatives 1918-1920; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1921-March 3, 1923); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1922 to the Sixty-eighth Congress; continued the practice of law until his retirement, when he devoted his time to writing; resided in Bitter Root Valley, near Stevensville, Mont., until his death in Missoula, Mont., March 7, 1949; interment in Missoula Cemetery.
