Info | born in Hadley Township, Lapeer County, Mich., December 2, 1875; attended the common schools of the county; was graduated from the Lapeer High School in 1893 and from the law department of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1899; was admitted to the bar in 1899 and commenced practice in Lapeer, Mich.; discontinued the practice of his profession in 1905 and published the Lapeer County Clarion 1905-1923; law clerk of the State senate three terms; deputy commissioner of railroads of Michigan in 1907; secretary of the Michigan Railroad Commission from September 1907 to January 1, 1909; member of the State house of representatives in 1909 and 1910; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-third and to the eight succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1913-March 3, 1931); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1930; special assistant to the Secretary of the Interior in 1931 and 1932; circuit judge of the fortieth judicial circuit from November 21, 1934, to December 31, 1941; delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1940; resumed the practice of law; member, State house of representatives, 1948-1960; died in Saginaw, Mich., June 23, 1966; interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lapeer, Mich.
