InfoIn 1999, Tom M. Dunning was awarded the prestigious Linz Award, which honors individuals for their outstanding contributions to the Dallas community. Capping nearly three decades of voluntary civic, non-profit, and governmental leadership in the City of Dallas, Mr. Dunning received the Linz Award for his efforts in bringing higher education to downtown Dallas.
Stepping down as Chairman of the DFW International Airport Board to run for Mayor in 2001, Mr. Dunning also draws upon his current service as a Board member and former Chairman of the University of North Texas Systems Center, the Southwestern and Baylor Medical Foundations, the State Fair of Texas and the Dallas Opera Board, where he serves on the Executive Committee.

Mr. Dunning, 59, has received repeated recognition for his willingness and success in working on challenging issues facing the City of Dallas, including education, homelessness, and race relations. His past efforts include serving on the Board for the Universities Center at Dallas and as Chairman of the Dallas Homeless Task Force. Mr. Dunning, however, may be most recognized by Dallasites for his ability to bridge conflicted points of view, as he did with the formation of Dallas together, an organization designed to facilitate race relations during the 1980s.

In addition to his civic and non-profit efforts, Mr. Dunning directly served the City of Dallas on the Park and Recreation Board and the State of Texas as Chairman of the Texas Water Development Board and as a Board member of the Texas Departments of Transportation, Human Services and Criminal Justice.

Balancing his civic, non-profit, and government experience, Mr. Dunning is also an established businessman, building a small business into one of the largest privately owned health and welfare benefit firms in the United Sates. Since merging his company with the Lockton Companies, Inc. in 1998, Mr. Dunning has served as the Chairman and CEO of Lockton Dunning Benefit Company.

Dedicated similarly to civic and business organizations in Dallas, Mr. Dunning previously served as Chairman of the Dallas Assembly, Dallas Alliance, and on the Boards of the Dallas Citizens Council and Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce.

Moreover, Mr. Dunning has volunteered his time with the Circle Ten Boy Scouts, Girls Incorporated, the Martin Luther King Center, Junior League and the Dallas Women's Foundation.

A long-time resident of Dallas, Mr. Dunning graduated from Hillcrest High School before earning a degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Tom is married to Sally and they have two children: John, a lawyer with the US Attorney's office in Dallas and Meredith, a recent graduate of Boston College.
