InfoDamien, 21, will become the youngest ever parliamentary candidate for Weston- super-Mare and will be amongst the youngest in the country at the next election which is expected to be held in May 2005.
Damien who is currently finishing his degree at St Mary's College in Twickenham is no stranger to the world of politics. He caused a major upset last September by defying all the odds and capturing a seat on the Downend Parish Council in Bristol which is traditionally a Conservative haven.
Damien says "I believe our politicians ought to be more reflective of the society in which they live; I hope by being a younger candidate that I can bring a fresh approach and new ideas to the political scene"
Councillor Chanel Stevens, the Labour Group leader in North Somerset Council said, “Weston Labour Party has made an excellent decision by selecting Damien as their prospective parliamentary candidate. The evidence of the last Town Council elections points clearly to the fact that Labour is now becoming the opposition in Weston and Damien gives us our best chance of beating Brian Cotter.
Damien said, “For too long people in Weston have been let down by the Lib Dems who always jump straight into bed with the Tories when given half a chance. It’s time for a change!”
