Political career
1986:
joins Basque Communist Party and takes upon important charges in the Central Committee and Political Council. He declares himself conscientious objector when it was not legal in the Spanish State yet. He has also taken part in neighbourhood associations, students’ groups and Christian associations.
1986:
co-founder and spokesman of the association for peace in the Basque Country "Gesto por la Paz."
1993:
accesses coordination area of the Basque communist party.
1994:
communist parliamentarian and spokesman in the Basque Parliament.
1994:
candidate to Basque presidency for the first time.
1994:
appointed general coordinator of the Basque communist party.
1995:
forms the Civic Platform for peace "Bakea Orain."
1998:
candidate to Basque premier again and re-elected parliamentarian.
2001:
Housing and Social Affairs Councillor of the Basque Government.
Interests
Athletic Club Bilbao follower and Basque pelota player. His favourite books are essays. He confesses he is a practising Catholic and pacifist.
His sister Julia Madrazo is the Town Planning and Environment councillor of Bilbao with the communist party.
