Info | Mitchell W. Seabaugh, a Republican, was first elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2000. His Republican colleagues elected him to his second term as the Majority Whip. He chairs the Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee, and serves as Secretary of the Rules Committee and the Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee. He is also a member of the Appropriations and Transportation Committees.
Within his community, Senator Seabaugh has served as the Chairman of the Coweta County Business License and Tax Appeal Board and served on the Coweta County School Board Citizens’ Advisory Council. He coached youth baseball in the Newnan and the Sharpsburg youth leagues.
Senator Seabaugh also actively supports the Northgate Band, formerly serving as a chaperone and band photographer. Senator Seabaugh represented his district as an executive committee member of the Coweta County Republican Party for six years. In 1996, he served as the Coweta County Chairman for the Bob Dole for President campaign. He also served on the 3rd District Committee and the Georgia Republican Party State Committee.
Senator Seabaugh was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, also the hometown of Rush Limbaugh. In 1980, he married the former Leah Huddleston. Mitch and Leah live in East Coweta County. They have two children, Karen and Ryan, a daughter-in-law Jennifer and one grandson, Andrew.
Senator Seabaugh is a graduate of Southern Arkansas University, majoring in Accounting. He passed the Certified Public Accountant exam in 1986. Currently he is a CFO for a local Newnan company.
He and his family are active members of SonRise Baptist Church in eastern Coweta County. Senator Seabaugh’s goal in office is to cultivate more involvement in the political process by citizens in his district. Looking forward to his third term, he plans on working on initiatives in Quality Health Care Access, Economic Development, Education, and Public Safety.
In his spare time, Senator Seabaugh enjoys golf and reading.
