Representative Hunt Downer was born on April 28, 1946, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He graduated from Terrebonne High School in 1964 and attended Louisiana State University. In 1968, he received a B.S. degree in Agriculture from Nicholls State University and in 1972 he received a Juris Doctorate degree from Loyola School of Law. He was enrolled in the Public Administration Masters Program at Louisiana State University until his activation for Desert Shield/Storm (Fall 1990).
Hunt is "of counsel" with the firm of Waitz & Downer in Houma. He has been admitted to practice before all state courts in both Louisiana and Colorado, the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, U.S. District Court, Eastern, Western, and Middle Districts of Louisiana, and U.S. Court of Military Appeals.
A resident of Houma, Louisiana, Hunt is married to the former Linda Lee of Houma, and has two children, Mary, age 22, and Blair, age 21.
