| Info | Thomas Shields of Auburn is serving his fourth term in the Legislature representing District 68. He has been a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Health and Human Services for three terms and was appointed ranking Republican member in the 121stand 122nd Legislatures.
In the 121st Legislature Representative Shields was chosen for the Joint Select Committee on Health Care Reform. This Committee was instrumental in refining and improving the Governor’s bill, known as Dirigo Health Care, to provide affordable health insurance to small businesses and individuals and to control health care costs in Maine.
Prior to his retirement, Representative Shields was a board certified orthopaedic surgeon. He received his undergraduate degree from Westminster College in Missouri and his medical degree from St. Louis University. He was also a Major in the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Shields and his wife, Bethel, have five children.
