Info | Mrs. Sharon Yvonne Runner
A native of the High Desert, Sharon has been an effective community leader for many years. Sharon established The Runner Group, a public relations and marketing company which has organized and directed the California Bush for President campaign, serving as an Area Co-chair for Los Angeles, Ventura, and Santa Barbara counties. Sharon has also worked on ballot initiatives including a recent, successful initiative to bring a Wal-Mart to east Palmdale. Runner's hard work earned her the recognition by Senator Bob Dole and President George W. Bush who both appointed her as a delegate to the 1996 and 2000 Republican National Conventions.
Sharon currently contracts with Desert Christian Schools serving as Director of Community Relations. She helped establish the school with her husband nearly 25 years ago. The Desert Christian Schools is one of the largest private schools in the State of California with nearly 2,000 students on four separate campuses, pre-school through high school. Prior to Desert Christian Schools, Sharon was a licensed Realtor and named "Realtor of the Year" with Red Carpet Real Estate Company.
California Governor Pete Wilson appointed Sharon to serve as one of a nine member Antelope Valley Fair Board of Directors overseeing all operations of the 50th Agricultural District as well as a multi-million dollar budget.
In addition to her political work, Sharon volunteers her time on several boards and committees. Sharon serves as a Director on the Boards of the United Way, A.V. Hospital Gift Foundation, Friends in Action, a victim's assistance non-profit, Antelope Valley Crime Task Force, Healthy Homes Advisory Council, Valley Volunteers, and CareNet Pregnancy Resource Center of the Antelope Valley. Additionally, she served as the chair of the American Heart Association Heartwalk.
Sharon served five years as a board of director at the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and is active in many Republican groups in the Antelope Valley including the Palmdale and A.V. Republican Women Clubs and has served as an officer for the A.V. Republican Assembly. Sharon serves as vice president of the PALS Club, an organization for the spouses of California Legislators. This year Sharon received the Woman of Distinction Award from Soroptomist International for her achievements in her professional, business, and volunteer activities.
She attended local public schools, graduating from Antelope Valley High School and attending Antelope Valley College. As a member of First Baptist Church, Lancaster for over thirty years, Sharon has served many hours to teaching children and adults through the church. She is married to Assemblymember George Runner who represents the 36th Assembly District. They have two children, one son recently married, Micah age 24, daughter-in-law, Sandy, and a daughter, Rebekah, age 14.
