Info | Dr. Alan Nakanishi, M.D., was born and raised in the Central Valley. Elected to the Lodi City Council in 1998, Dr. Nakanishi became mayor of Lodi in 2001. Under his leadership, Lodi received accolades as a model city for energy planning.
After working his way through school as a cannery employee and field worker, Dr. Nakanishi received his Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry from Pacific Union College. Following his undergraduate education, Dr. Nakanishi attended Loma Linda University Medical School where he received his M.D. He then served two years in the U.S. Army, where he attained the rank of Major. In 1971, Dr. Nakanishi began his private practice in Opthamology in Stockton, co-founding the Delta Eye Medical Group. In addition, he frequently donates his time in Baja and Monterey, Mexico where he conducts clinics for resident physicians and hospitals.
As an Assemblyman, Dr. Nakanishi serves his constituents on the Aging and Long Term Care Committee, the Health Committee, and the Public Employees Retirement and Social Security Committee. He is also the Vice-Chair of the Higher Education Committee.
Dr. Nakanishi and his wife Sue make their home in Lodi, and have three children and nine grandchildren.
