| Info | Latifah is a Story County native, graduate of Iowa State University and the very proud mother of two daughters.
She received her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology while raising her two small children. Because of her experience working, going to school and being a parent, she understands the need for and the importance of affordable, reliable and safe childcare and afterschool programming.
Latifah joins the Board of Supervisors with over 15 years of experience in Story County government. She began her career with the county as a student intern in victim services for the county attorney. After her graduation from Iowa State University she was hired permanently and has worked in victim services and restitution recovery. In 2008 she launched the Fines Recovery and Driver’s License Reinstatement program which created a new revenue stream for the County’s general fund and a program to assist people with delinquent court debt with no cost to the participant. She worked in mental health court development, grant writing and headed the planning team for Alternatives-an arrest diversion to treatment programming for those struggling with opioid and other substance use disorders.
She was the Fines Recovery coordinator and project director for Alternatives until she was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2020.
She has been a volunteer for United Way, Iowa Games, Food at First, Habitat for Humanity, Ames Figure Skating Club, the Center for Creative Justice, The Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation and a 24-hour crisis and information hotline.
As a Supervisor, Latifah represents Story County on the following boards: BooSt for Children, Central Iowa regional Housing Authority, Story County Housing Trust Fund, Central Iowa Juvenile Detention, Story County Decategorization, Story County College Access Network, Community and Family Resources, Alternatives Advisory Board, Center for Creative Justice.
