Info | Russ Powers was elected to Federal Parliament in June 2004 and served the people of the Riding of Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale in Ottawa until January 23rd, 2006.
Russ, for more than 20 years, served as an elected member of the local municipal council. Since 1982 he has served as a councillor on Dundas Town Council, Hamilton-Wentworth Regional Council and, until his election to Federal Parliament, on Hamilton City Council.
Russ moved from municipal to federal politics to utilize his past experience to affect environmental issues such as water, climate-change and natural resource management, to use his years of experience in the healthcare industry to affect appropriate change, to work for federal support to increase investments in municipal infrastructure for cities and communities, and to ensure that our community's issues are addressed at the national level.
A strong supporter of community service, he has been actively involved in several local service clubs, organizations and as a member of many committees. Before entering Federal politics,
Mr. Powers was employed at McMaster University Medical Centre. He and his wife, Linda, live in Dundas and have two grown children and two young grandsons.
