Info | The Apple Valley mayor's race hinges largely on how voters feel about development. Next door in Rosemount, elections are focusing on the lack of development - and poor communication between government and the community.
The choices for Apple Valley mayor are a four-year incumbent proud of the city's business development and a challenger who is critical of it.
"I love Apple Valley, and I am proud to be mayor," said Mary Hamann-Roland, 48. "We did a good job of developing a vision for a planned downtown."
Her top priority, she said, is "making sure we are fiscally responsible, in its broadest application city, state and national."
She pointed to a string of successes for the city, including lowering taxes, an improvement in the city's bond rating and the development of pedestrian-friendly Legacy Village.
