InfoI’ve had the honor of serving as the 6th district Councilwoman of the City of Long Beach since December 2020 I am the first Cambodian American to serve as a Councilmember in the City of Long Beach. I understands the immigrant experience first-hand and this drives my commitment to fight for equity. I was born in a refugee camp to parents who survived the Cambodian Genocide. Focused on a future of organizing, civic engagement, and advocacy, I pushed against the odds to earn three degrees: a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Cellular Developmental Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, a Master’s degree in Public Administration from California State University, Long Beach and a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D) and Organizational Leadership from the University of La Verne.

I began my career as a labor organizer, working alongside janitors and healthcare workers in their fight for fair wages and better working conditions. I previously worked as a Conservancy Project Development Specialist to the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy (RMC). I am currently the Manager of Stakeholder Relations at AES Clean Energy, meanwhile serving on the Long Beach City Council.

During my time on the City Council, I have been able to increase parking by auditing red curbs, increase invesment to make improvements to MacArthur Park, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, and McBride Park, as well as clean up our streets to remove trash, unclutter alleys, and beautify our city. I’ve introduced legislations to increase minimum wages for hospital and hospitality workers, creation of a Cambodian American Cultural Center, support the Mayor’s local emergency declaration on homeless, as well as support the creation of affordable housing in my district.

I currently serve as the Chair of Mobility, Infrastructure, & Ports, Vice Chair of Arts, Culture, & Tourism, and a member of the Economic & Opportunity Committee, Board Member of Southern California Association of Government (SCAG) - Regional Council 29, Chair of the Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority, and a Board member of the Los Angeles County Sanitation District.

Thank you for your supporting my re-election for Long Beach City Council District 6!
