Info | With a lifelong interest in government and public service, Brian Davis has dedicated himself to serving the 38th Assembly District in Sacramento. Tired of "politics as usual" - a trend that has resulted in the lowest voter turnouts in history -Brian is ready to step up, engage the electorate and bring change to the 38th district!
After being born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Brian moved with his parents, Mary and Harry Davis, to California in 1989, settling in the Santa Clarita Valley. Quickly adapting to the new environment, Brian enrolled in the Santa Clarita public schools. This would be his home until he graduated from Saugus High School in 1996. Immediately following high school, Brian attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. While in college, Brian developed his commitment to community, spending most of his weekends volunteering with campus and community-based organizations serving the less fortunate. Enriched by the Jesuit experience of Loyola Marymount, Brian graduated with a degree in Business Administration and vowed to work for the public good.
After graduation, Brian returned to the Santa Clarita Valley and began working for a major Hollywood studio in the marketing department. Brian became involved with the studio’s volunteer organization, working with Project Angel Food, Shane’s Inspiration, Santa Monica Boulevard Elementary School and AIDS Project Los Angeles.
Realizing that his volunteer work dominated his time, Brian decided to leave the entertainment industry and take a position with an HIV/AIDS service provider in Los Angeles. Today, he manages the corporate and foundation giving program of a $32 million agency serving more than 200,000 people in Los Angeles County. Brian’s public service, however, extends beyond merely his workday, and he has volunteered his efforts for a variety of important causes.
While Brian is a staunch democrat, Brian initially entered the political foray as a Young Republican, attracted to the party because of a belief in individual responsibility, a history of equality and empowerment. But after launching the club "People For Young People" interested in Republican politics, Brian soon learned that the GOP has long abandoned those principles of its early pioneers, including Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt.
Terrified that his party was more concerned with piety than progress, Brian left the party and became a Democrat. In 2000, he was an active volunteer with Al Gore’s presidential campaign. Brian has registered hundreds of voters and knocked on nearly as many doors. Brian admires the Democratic Party’s concern for the working American. After years of community volunteerism, he has seen first hand what happens when a government fails it people. Since the historic campaign of 2000, Brian has become an activist within the Democratic Party. He has served on the executive board of the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley since 2001. He is a delegate to the California Democratic Party Central Committee and was appointed to the Los Angeles County Democratic Central Committee in 2003. He is involved with the Democratic Club of Santa Clarita, the Democratic Alliance for Action, the San Fernando Valley Young Democrats, the Stonewall Democratic Club and the Stonewall Young Democrats.
In June 2004, Brian received the 38th Assembly District Democrat of the Year Award.
