My name is Suzanna Aguilera-Marrero “SAM.” I am a Tulare County native; born and raised in Porterville and living now in Tulare. worked for seven years at Vocation Plus, Inc. ultimately becoming Regional Program/Vocational Director. As the agency’s representative I worked and advocated for the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
In 1993 I went into civil service and worked for the California Department of Corrections, (now known as California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation). I was also a member of the California Correctional Health Care Services Division. I retired from the Department as a Captain in 2013.
Throughout my career I was also a member and statewide president of the Chicano Correctional Workers Association, the first female to hold that position. After the brutal murder of my uncle in 1996, I became an advocate for victim’s rights. Ultimately becoming an executive board member of Crime Victims United in 2005. And in 2007 I became the first Latina to serve as president of the Women Peace Officers’ Association of California.
It would be an honor to continue to serve this community in Congress.
