Info | Mark Strama is a high-tech executive and entrepreneur with a broad range of experience in the business sector, non-profit sector, and in government. As Director of Business Development at Accenture eDemocracy Services, Strama works with state and local elections officials across the country as well as with state and federal policy makers to address the challenges they face in reforming the nation's election administration infrastructure.
Strama was Senior Vice President for Public Elections at election.com, an elections technology company bringing the economy, efficiency, and convenience of new technology to the democratic process. Following an intense three year period in which technology companies suffered severe losses and election technology became a critical national priority, election.com emerged as an industry leader and was acquired by Accenture in 2003.
Previously, Strama was founder and Chief Executive Officer of NewVoter.com, Inc., which was acquired by election.com in January 2000. An Austin-based start-up, NewVoter.com was the first company to enable voter registration over the Internet. Over 700,000 voters have registered to vote in the 2000 election cycle using NewVoter's technology.
In 1999, Strama also co-founded Charitygift, Inc. Visitors to www.charitygift.com can make a charitable donation in the name of a friend, a family member, or business associate, and send them a card announcing that a donation has been made in their name. Card recipients then return to the web site to direct the donations to the charity of their choice.
During the 1996 election cycle, Strama served as Director of Programs for Rock the Vote, a music industry-sponsored non-profit that engages young people in the political process. He is the former Chief of Staff to State Senator Rodney Ellis, and served on the staff of Ann Richards' successful 1990 gubernatorial campaign.
Strama has served on the Board of Directors of KidsVoting USA, a national non-profit organization that develops civics education programs for K-12 students. He is a founding board member of Hope Street Group, a non-partisan organization that seeks to realign American domestic politics to achieve equality of opportunity in a high growth economy. He graduated from Brown University in 1990, with degrees in Philosophy and Political Science.
