InfoRoger Gallaway, born in Sarnia in 1948, is a graduate of SCITS, the University of Western Ontario (BA, 1972) and the University of Windsor (LLB, 1975). In 1991, he was elected the first mayor of Point Edward, Ontario. He entered the House of Commons in 1993 and was re-elected as Member of Parliament for Sarnia-Lambton in all subsequent elections. In 2003, Prime Minister Paul Martin appointed Mr. Gallaway to the Privy Council of Canada as Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons with special emphasis on Democratic Reform. Following the 2004 general election, he was elected Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport.

He is often referred to in the press as a “maverick” and “independent minded” member and is said to be one of Canada’s most quoted MP’s. He co-chaired the Special House-Senate Joint Committee on Custody and Access on the children of divorce, which recommended sweeping divorce act changes. He is well known nationally as an advocate for the needs of children to have two parents post divorce and travels extensively to speak on this topic. His other legislative interests include the oil and petrochemical business, regulated industries, consumer protection law and parliamentary reform. He is the founder of the national heritage program preserving in perpetuity former prime ministers’ gravesites together with publications on the lives of former prime ministers.

In Sarnia-Lambton he founded the Council for Economic Renewal. An original member of the Parliamentary True Grit Band and sometime serious musician he has appeared in galas for our International Symphony as well as being the narrator for a “Child’s Introduction to the Symphony”.

Married to Jane, a school teacher, they have 4 children: Sarah, Dave, Paul and Eric.
