InfoAn experienced educator and municipal politician, Jerry Pickard was first elected to the House of Commons in 1988. He won a fourth term in November 2000.

He is currently a vice-chair of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration and a member of the Standing Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament. He is also serving as Chair of the Southwestern Ontario Caucus for a second term.

Throughout his extensive political career, Jerry has participated on many House of Commons committees including: Finance, Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Industry, Natural Resources, Procedure and House Affairs, and Public Works. He has chaired the Standing Committee on Agriculture, and served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and, later, Public Works and Government Services.

Born and raised in Chatham, Jerry earned Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees from the University of Windsor. For 25 years, he taught in Chatham-Kent and Essex County. From 1974 to 1988, he served as a Kingsville Councillor, Deputy Reeve, and Mayor.

Jerry and his wife Caroline have three sons.
