Info | Chad Prosser is a proven leader, job creator and a conservative reformer who is tired of what is coming out of Washington. Chad is running for Congress because he has the experience reforming government that Washington so desperately needs.
Serving under the most fiscally conservative governor in a generation, Chad brought accountability and efficiency to the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism (PRT). Chad followed Governor Sanford’s no-nonsense approach to fiscal conservatism and public accountability, reforming the agency and discarding traditional notions in favor of sweeping changes. Chad’s reforms saved taxpayer dollars and increased tourism, helping small businesses and creating private-sector jobs.
A Florence native, Chad graduated from Florence Christian School. Chad graduated with honors from Rhodes College in 1989, before earning a master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.
He began his career working for the US Department of Commerce International Trade Administration and State Department before returning home to South Carolina to raise a family and start a successful hospitality company.
Chad served on the Horry County Council for more than eight years, where his pro-growth strategy for the county supported businesses and encouraged economic development. In 2002, he became the first person in county history to be re-elected to a consecutive term as county council chairman.
In 2003, Chad accepted Governor Mark Sanford’s invitation to join the governor’s cabinet as director of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, where he accomplished real reform of a state agency. Chad turned around the financially ailing State Park Service, making it one of the ten most efficient park services in the nation and second in the southeast, all while generating operational savings used to improve South Carolina parks without additional tax dollars.
Chad was awarded South Carolina’s highest civilian honor, the Order of the Palmetto, in 2010, and in the past has served as chairman of United Way’s South Carolina State Employee campaign in addition to numerous other boards and charities.
In 2011, Chad left public service to re-enter the business world full-time. As someone who has created and run several successful businesses, he continues to be frustrated by Washington’s constant interference with free enterprise and complete dysfunction.
Chad is currently a partner with Prosser Johnson LLC, a Myrtle Beach based consulting firm that helps companies grow by assisting them with capital formation, market strategy and organizational development. He resides in Murrells Inlet, SC, with his sons, Matthew and Thomas.
