InfoA respected municipal leader and a gifted teacher, Ovid Jackson has been serving the people of Bruce–Grey–Owen Sound as a member of the Liberal Caucus since 1993.

Mr. Jackson is currently the chair of the Central Ontario Caucus and a member of the Standing Committee on Transport.

He has served with distinction on four standing committees, as Vice-chair to both Health and Citizenship and Immigration, member to Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and to Transport and Government Operations.

In recognition of his ability, he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the President of Treasury Board and Minister responsible for Government Renewal in February 1996 and re-appointed in July 1997. He is also committed to the advancement of the National Children's Agenda.

Prior to entering federal politics, Mr. Jackson served as an Alderman with the City of Owen Sound from 1974 to 1982, and as Mayor from 1982 to 1993.

After immigrating to Canada in 1965, Mr. Jackson obtained his teaching certificate from Ontario Teachers College and taught at West Hill Secondary School, from 1968 to 1993. He also has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario.

Mr. Jackson and his wife, Verona, have two children and four grandchildren.
