Info Dr. Jeannot Castonguay was elected to the House of Commons for the first time on November 27, 2000.

He is currently the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and a member of the Standing Committee on Health.

Since 1974, he has had a private practice in general surgery at the Edmundston Regional Hospital, where he has been the medical personnel representative on management quality since 1996. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the University of Moncton and since 1997 has been President of the governing body of the New Brunswick Medical Association.

Dr. Castonguay is very active in promoting the well-being of his community and sits on a number of boards and committees, such as the Edmundston Regional Hospital (ERH) ambulatory services committee and the ERH Foundation.

From 1994 to 1996, Dr. Castonguay was chief physician at the ERH and from 1993 to 1994, he was head of the regional surgical department. From 1970 to 1974, he was a resident physician in surgery at the Wilmington Medical Centre in Delaware, where for one year, he was chief resident in surgery.

Dr. Castonguay graduated in medicine from Laval University in 1969 and obtained his certificate from the Canadian Royal College of Surgeons in 1974. He took further advanced training in laparoscopic surgery from 1990 to 1993.

Jeannot Castonguay is married and the father of three children.
