| Info | Anita Neville was elected as Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South Centre in November 2000 and re-elected in June of 2004 and January 2006. Anita serves as Critic for Indian Affairs and Northern Development. Previously, Ms. Neville was Chair of The Standing Committee on the Status of Women and also served on the Justice Standing Committee and in the Privy Council as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women.. She also was Chair of the Northern and Western Caucus and is past Chair of the National Liberal Women's Caucus and the Manitoba Liberal Caucus. Ms. Neville has also served on the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration, the Human Resources Development committee, the National Defence committee, and the Aboriginal and Northern Affairs committee.
Prior to her election, she was employed as an Economic Development Consultant for the Province of Manitoba. She also served as Director of WORKFORCE 2000, a provincial skills training program and Director of the Winnipeg Core Area Initiative Employment and Training Program. A long-time member of the Winnipeg School Division Number 1 Board of Trustees, Ms. Neville served for five years as Chair of the Board and was a member of several standing and ad hoc committees, including Chair of the Finance Committee, and Chair of the Task Force on Race Relations.
Ms. Neville has worked on a number of community initiatives, including the Law Society of Manitoba, where she was a lay bencher, the City of Winnipeg Community and Race Relations Committee, Rossbrook House, Winnipeg Jewish Child and Family Services and the Manitoba Association of School Trustees. As well, she served as a member of the Canadian Delegation observing elections in Bosnia.
Involved with the Liberal Party for many years, Ms. Neville was a candidate for River Heights in the Manitoba provincial election in 1995. She served as the Federal Policy Chair, Manitoba (1997-2000), was a member of the National Standing Committee on Policy (1997-2000) and a member of the Manitoba Provincial Executive (1997-2000). Ms. Neville also co-chaired the election campaign of the Leader of the Liberal Party in Manitoba in the 1999 provincial election.
The mother of three daughters, Ms. Neville grew up in Winnipeg; attending school in the riding she now represents. She earned her Bachelor of Arts, Honours, Political Studies from the University of Manitoba.
