Info | Jack MacLaren has lived in the riding of Carleton-Mississippi Mills for 50 years, growing up on the family farm at MacLaren’s Landing. His family has deep roots in the area, extending back to 1826 when they received a land grant from the British Crown. Jack and his wife, Janet, have three daughters – Jessica, Rachel and Alexis. Janet and all three girls are Registered Nurses.
Jack studied Civil Engineering at Queen’s University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1972. He worked in engineering and construction in Vancouver and Calgary for a decade, and then returned to the family farm to work as a cash crop farmer. As a small business person, active community member and strong industry advocate, he has seen the negative effects of high taxes and big government on hardworking Ontario families. Jack is running to represent Carleton-Mississippi Mills at Queen’s Park because he wants to bring change that will restore prosperity and freedom to people and businesses in Ontario.
Over the years, Jack has been an active member of a variety of community and agricultural organizations, including the Ontario Landowners Association (President), Carleton Landowners Associations (President), Canadian Justice Review Board (Director) and the Region’s Federation of Agriculture (President). In these roles, Jack has successfully advocated for the interests and rights of individuals, changed public perceptions about rural issues and influenced government policy, to the benefit of many people in Ontario.
Closer to home, Jack has acted as the Chairman of the Board for the local MacLaren’s Landing Community Association since 1990. He helped spearhead a private fundraising campaign with homeowner in the community to raise $105,000 to purchase the local swimming beach and maintain control of this important community property.
Jack enjoys spending time with his family, reading and boating on the Ottawa River. In 2002, he was chosen as “West Carleton Citizen of the Year”.
