Info | I have served the Northern Tier as the Bradford County director of veterans affairs for the past 8 1/2 years, and it has been my honor and privilege to do so. My office has attempted to serve our veterans, their families and descendents with courtesy and efficiency, and the work has developed and progressed to where the Office has assisted in returning over $1 million in awarded VA benefits to the veterans and their families of this county every year, for four years in a row. My work in this office has interfaced with all county agencies in providing additional aid to our clients, as we encounter the problems of disability, poverty, homelessness, and age on a daily basis. We interact with all of our county and state agencies in dealing with these problems. Our motto since beginning has been "persistence, and perseverance in the pursuit of benefits to veterans and their families."
Prior to working for Bradford County, I worked as a personnel manager for Piper Aircraft Corporation, as a municipal manager for Sayre and Strasburg boroughs, Richland and West Lampeter townships, serving as manager, treasurer and secretary, and code enforcement officer in these communities over a 20 year period. Those experiences covered a broad range of duties and responsibilities, including office administration, public works projects, including paving, water and sewer system improvements and administration, subdivision review, grants applications and administration, and code enforcement.
I previously participated in various economic development projects including the development of the Sayre Guthrie Inn and Enterprise Development Program, the 896 Bypass Project in Lancaster County, and the Route 218 Interchange Project in Cambria County. I currently serve on the Sayre Borough Council, am a member of the emergency management and public works committees, am a long time member of the Sayre-Athens Lions Club, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the American Legion, the Forty and Eight Society, the Elks, a social member of the Sayre Sons of Italy, past board member and president (briefly) of the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce and secretary of the Sayre Enterprise Development Committee.
Professionally, I am an accredited service officer of the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, as well as the American Legion, and authorized to represent veterans and their families before the VA Board of Veterans Appeals in pursuing benefits to aid our citizens.
I am a product of Bradford County, was raised in Sayre, graduated from Sayre High School, Lock Haven University, with a B.A. in natural sciences, majoring in chemistry, hold an M.A. from Saint Francis University in personnel/industrial relations and have taken graduate courses in public administration at Penn State, as well as continuing education courses from Pennsylvania Community and Economic Development while working in municipal administration, sewage plant operation and welding, and the course in mediation from the Lancaster County Mediation Council and the Master Planner course for local government officials given by the Lancaster County Planning Commission.
I served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966 during the Vietnam conflict, trained first as an infantryman, then later as an administrative specialist in Louisiana, followed by a two year tour of duty in the New York National Guard.
I previously have held a Commercial Driver's License, municipal water system operator's license, and a real estate sales license in Pennsylvania and New York state.
