Info | JACKSON, William Terry, a Representative from New York; born in Chester, Orange County, N.Y., December 29, 1794; attended the common schools and later studied surveying; taught school in Goshen 1813-1815; employed as a surveyor and later engaged in mercantile pursuits in Chester and Owego, N.Y., and Bermerville, Sussex County, N.J.; moved to Havana, Chemung County (now township of Montour, Schuyler County), N.Y., in 1825 and engaged in mercantile pursuits; justice of the peace 1836-1838; judge of the court of common pleas and general sessions of Chemung County 1839-1846; justice of the peace, town of Catherine, Chemung County; elected as a Whig to the Thirty-first Congress (March 4, 1849-March 3, 1851); resumed mercantile pursuits; died in Montour Falls, N.Y., September 15, 1882; interment in Montour Falls Cemetery.
