Info | BACON, William Johnson, (son of Ezekiel Bacon and grandson of John Bacon), a Representative from New York; born in Williamstown, Mass., February 18, 1803; moved with his parents to Utica, N.Y., in 1815; was graduated from Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., in 1822; studied law and was graduated from the Litchfield Law School in 1824; was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced practice in Utica, Oneida County, N.Y.; appointed city attorney in 1837; member of the State assembly in 1850; elected trustee of Hamilton College in 1851; elected judge of the State supreme court of the fifth district in 1854 and served until 1870; elected as a Republican to the Forty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1877-March 3, 1879); was not a candidate for renomination in 1878; resumed the practice of law; died in Utica, N.Y., July 3, 1889; interment in Forest Hill Cemetery.
