Info | BEAN, Benning Moulton, a Representative from New Hampshire; born in Moultonboro, Carroll County, N.H., on January 9, 1782; attended the public schools of Moultonboro and received private tutoring; engaged in teaching and in agricultural pursuits; selectman of Moultonboro 1811-1829 and 1832-1838; justice of the peace in 1816; trustee of Sandwich Academy in 1824; member of the State house of representatives 1815-1823; served in the State senate 1824-1826; again a member of the State house of representatives in 1827; member of the Governor’s council in 1829; again served in the State senate in 1831 and 1832, being president the latter year; elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Congresses (March 4, 1833-March 3, 1837); declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1836; resumed teaching and agricultural pursuits in Moultonboro, Carroll County, N.H., where he died February 6, 1866; interment in Bean Cemetery.
