Info | Bob was born and raised in Hamilton, where he attended Ballard and Delta Schools, and later worked as a Lab Technician for two years at Dofasco. Always wanting to be a radio announcer, Bob left Dofasco and in 1965 began a career that would last 41 years. He presently hosts the number one-rated morning show on CHML in Hamilton.
In 2004 he decided to run for public office and won the Ward 2 City Council seat left vacant when Andrea Horwath moved to Provincial politics. During the past two years Bob has become one of the leading voices on Council. He fought the original Lister Block deal which was subsequently over-turned, and he fought against the rezoning of 3000 acres of prime farmland, which the City passed, but the Province over-ruled.
He has overseen the drive to bring VIA Rail back to downtown Hamilton. This location has been supported whole-heartedly by an independent consultant's report now coming before council. Bob's greatest asset is his ability to communicate and connect with people. He is a tireless worker for the neighbourhoods, residents and businesses of Ward 2.
His passion and commitment for Hamilton have earned him many honours, including Mountain Citizen of the Year, Finalist for Hamilton's Citizen of the Year, The Queen's Jubilee Medal for life-long community service, the Chamber of Commerce Hometown Hero award, and he is also a member of the Football Reporters of Canada Hall of Fame.
Bob is an accomplished musician, performing on a number of instruments with the Balkan Strings Folk Orchestra and the Wally Mack Dance Band. Once a runner, he completed 10 Around the Bay Races, 18 Marathons, including the prestigious Boston Marathon, and dozens of others. He's also noted for his extensive knowledge of the history of Hamilton, and is often invited as a guest speaker to historical societies and other gatherings.
Bob has been married for 40 years to his wife Carol, a retired school teacher who continues to volunteer in schools assisting young teachers. Their son, Sam, a musician as well, graduated from McMaster University and is presently a student at the University of Waterloo.
