| Info | Michael K. Gaskin was born in Greenwood, SC to the late Earthy and Mamie Gaskin. He was a 1979 graduate of Greenwood High School, and enlisted in the United States Air Force in August of that year.
After 21 years of active duty service, Michael retired having served two tours of duty at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., with the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force for Public Affairs, and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs and Drug Enforcement. His last active duty assignment was with the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, Detachment 770, Clemson University.
In August 2001, he was hired to serve as Greenwood County First Steps Executive Director. Michael has spearheaded this initiative from an outsourced structure single office to a highly functional and productive “in-house” organization. He is a certified trainer through the South Carolina Center for Child Care Career Development, and has completed the Child Abuse and Neglect Training. He is the founder and Administrator of “Real Fathers are Dads” Fatherhood Initiative, and the co-founder of “Real Mothers are Moms” Programs.
He has earned three Associate Degrees; two from the Community College of the Air Force, Maxwell AFB, AL (Information Management and Administration), and one from Piedmont Technical College, Greenwood, SC (Business). His Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration was received from Southern Wesleyan University, Central, SC. Mr. Gaskin has earned two Master degrees; Master of Science in Management from Southern Wesleyan University, and Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Phoenix, Phoenix, AZ. He currently is pursuing his Doctorate in Business Administration at Walden University.
He is married to Sharon and they have three sons Mychal, Marquez, John, and a daughter KeShonda.
