InfoTo the Citizens of the State of Wisconsin:

Although my name may be unfamiliar to many of you, I hope that by this time next year you will know me well, know my positions on issues affecting Wisconsin, and choose to vote for me as your next governor.

As a way of introducing myself and my candidacy, I want to state three things up front. They describe why I am running for office and how I will run my campaign.

First: I hope to achieve the goal of improving life for the people of Wisconsin. I have the skills, ideas and energy that will benefit our state, and I recognize that holding office is far more than attaining a prominent position. Public service is both a privilege and a responsibility.

Second: I will not run down my opponents’ ideas or reputations. As governor, I will seek to build cooperative working relationships with persons in both parties. Honest, forthright disagreement on ideas and issues should not result in disagreeable or objectionable behavior. In the realm of politics, competitors are also colleagues and adversaries may become allies. I have the will and the ability to bring people together. When those in office lose the capacity to cooperate, the people of the state lose effective leadership.

Third: I want to look carefully at our state’s policies, programs and activities to see which have run their course or have in some ways been run into the ground. In these challenging economic times, we need to assess all aspects of spending with care and compassion. The bottom line? Affirm and support those programs and policies that benefit our citizens. But do not be afraid to reject or reconfigure what is not working.
