InfoGeorge L. Schueppert
Candidate for Village President
A 25-year resident of Barrington Hills, George Schueppert will bring a wealth of professional business and leadership wisdom and experience, as well as decades of volunteerism, to the office of President of the Village. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, George served in the US Navy as an engineering officer on two ships, serving in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Returning to the Midwest, he earned an MBA from the University of Chicago. Following a 20-year plus banking career, George served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of two Chicago-area NYSE firms. Today, he is President of The Great Books Foundation, a 62-year old non-profit education organization.

His local contributions include chairing a fifty-person volunteer group that produced an extensive report on the school district in 2001, serving as president of a medical research foundation, and being on the Board of the Barrington Bank & Trust Company. His service to Barrington Hills includes the Zoning Board of Appeals and as a Trustee since 2005.

A strong believer in consensus building and transparent government, George feels the level of emotional interplay of late within the village is not healthy or productive. This has led to a loss of confidence in and respect for the management of village affairs. His candidacy is in response to the requests of many residents over the past year.

As Trustee he has reached out to and worked with residents on a number of issues, including cell towers, heritage trees, home occupations and the right of the equestrian community to conduct boarding operations. He feels the Village’s financial well-being has eroded over the past three years and there is not an adequate safety cushion of reserves. The Village’s cash reserves have fallen from over $3.5 million in the spring of 2005 to under $1 million today. He strongly believes the Village cannot continue to operate in this fashion.

Finally, George strongly believes we must protect our natural environment, sustain our equestrian community, safeguard the residential zoning we enjoy in Barrington Hills, and maintain the sense of security we have in the village through sustaining a strong police department. He has been a visionary, dedicated, hard-working, open-minded and wise public servant in Barrington Hills for many years, and will continue his commitment to the residents of our Village in the role of President of our village.
