Austin, of Abington, has served as a Pennsylvania Assistant Public Defender since 2004. Prior to that, she held the position of Assistant District Attorney for Montgomery County, where she served as a county-wide criminal prosecutor. Her professional experience also includes serving as general counsel for Hearthside Management in Jenkintown, Pa. and as staff attorney for the Supreme Court of Ohio. She is a retired captain of the U.S. Navy Reserve, and she currently teaches a course, titled “Counseling Families Undergoing Legal Crisis,” to doctoral candidates at Palmer Theological Seminary in Wynnewood, Pa.
Austin holds an associate’s degree in Computer Systems from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio, a bachelor’s degree in Speech from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. and a Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio. She has been recognized by the American Business Women’s Association as an “Outstanding Business Woman,” and was named a “Rising Star” among Elder Law attorneys by Philadelphia Magazine. She was also featured in the Pa. Commission on Women-sponsored book Voices.
Austin is the chair of the Diversity Committee of the Montgomery Bar Association, is a member of the Minority Attorney Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and is a member of the Willow Grove Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America.
