Info | Advocating on behalf of teachers, parents and students is my number one priority as a candidate for the Kyrene School District Governing Board. I am a native Arizonan, former Kyrene student, former Kyrene teacher, and current Kyrene parent. My roots are strong in my community and my state. I aspire to provide a voice for those whom I represent. Pair my experience with my Master’s in Elementary Education and I provide a well-rounded viewpoint on issues that matter most to my community.
Transparency is the key to open communication. Elected officials are elected by the people. Therefore decisions made by elected officials should consider the viewpoints of the people along with thorough research of the facts. It will be my goal to provide a transparent campaign as well as uphold that philosophy as a board member.
Teachers deserve to be paid more. I have not met a person yet who disagrees with me. Although the problem is bigger than the school district, I will do my part to advocate on behalf of teachers in reference to salary increases. My hope is that in my lifetime, teachers are paid what they deserve. Until teachers are paid better, society will need to be ready to deal with the ever-increasing teacher shortage. Common sense needs to prevail on this issue. I plan to do my part in educating others of this fact.
Bridging the local high-tech industry with the school community is a goal of mine as well. Technology based instruction will only increase over time and providing updated computers and other technical tools to the schools will become even more of a necessity in the future. It cannot stop there. Students often times surpass teachers when it comes to computer savvy. We must provide teachers with continuous opportunities for relevant technology training so they are able to provide learning opportunities that appropriately challenge their students.
I think of the role of a board member as a facilitator. It will be a privilege to link teachers, parents, students and community members to each other for the purpose of providing quality education for our future generations. It really does take a village. I plan to do my part.
I have called Arizona my home my entire life. It saddens me that when it comes to education, we rank close to 50th in the nation within so many categories. I hope that in my lifetime there is a huge change for the better. Instead of sitting back and complaining about it, I have decided to do something about it. I am ready for the tough votes. I am ready for the people who disagree with me. I am ready for the unexpected.
I expect to learn from it all.
After all, we never stop learning.
