InfoHelen Wilson has lived in Hamilton for most of her life. Now a retired educator and innovative leader, she has served in a variety of leadership positions at the local, provincial, and federal, and international levels. She has been a coordinator, co-chair, chair, and vice-president of numerous political and community organizations including Regional Vice President, South Central, for the Ontario Liberal Party, Coordinator of Canvassing for the federal election campaigns in 2004 and 2006, Vice President on the Executive of the OWLC, co-chair in the Golden Horseshoe Region of the Victory Fund for the federal Liberal Party and Co-Chair of Volunteers for the McMaster Children's Hospital Telethon in 2005.

Ms. Wilson was elected as a trustee in Ward One for the Hamilton Board of Education for 1991-94 and campaigned as the Provincial Liberal Candidate for Hamilton-West in elections in 1990 and 1995.

In 2003 Ms. Wilson was the coordinator the World Road Cycling Championships for the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, and she was a member of the Cycling Festival Committee which brought millions of dollars in revenue to Hamilton.

Ms. Wilson remains a keen activist in local community affairs, working to bring pride back to Hamilton Centre. She is aware of the issues that affect the residents of this riding and is committed to working together with our municipal and provincial partners to address issues of poverty, the welfare of children, and the economic and environmental well-being of Hamilton.

Ms. Wilson holds a B.A. from McMaster University. She raised her family in Hamilton and taught for years in Hamilton’s elementary and secondary schools. As a teacher she created and piloted many programs for special needs students and children at risk. Her son, Mark Horvath, her daughter-in-law, Tanya, and her grandchildren, Alex and Ben, currently reside in Sydney, Australia.
