InfoAmy is a long-time San Diego resident, having lived here for most of her adult life. She graduated from Carlsbad High School, and then went on to Mira Costa Community College for two years, where she was active in student government. She graduated from San Diego State with a B.A. in journalism, and a minor in Latin American Studies.

Amy's first job was as a reporter for a community newspaper in Oceanside, the Oceanside Breeze. Looking to broaden her perspective through travel, Amy took to the skies as a flight attendant with Pan Am, as a member of the International Union of Flight Attendants.

Upon landing, she hit the streets again as a reporter for the San Diego Independent covering City Hall until 1992, covering local politics and the City Hall beat. She also campaigned for Jimmy Carter, Democrat, for Mayor of San Diego,.

After the paper closed down, Amy, the proverbial advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves, entered the legal field as director of a non-profit domestic violence clinic associted with the City Attorney's office, where she provided bilingual services to victims and gave educational seminars in the community.

Ms. Lepine enrolled in California Western School of Law in January 1997 and finished her law degree in two years, instead of three! At California Western, she was on the editorial staff of the Law Review, and was elected by her peers as Student Bar Association President in her third year. She also competed on the trial team, representing the school at trial competitions. Amy returned to the City Attorney's office as a law student, interning in the Criminal Division, and gaining experience in enforcement of the San Diego Municipal Code.

Upon receiving her J.D., cum laude in 1999 and passing the state bar exam on her first try, Amy began work in private practice, specializing in plaintiff-side consumer class action suits for violations of consumer protection laws. She has successfully argued for certification of nationwide and state-wide class certification in Colorado, New York and California courts. She has been appointed to leadership positions on plaintiffs' steering committees in Multi-District Litigation, has represented consumers in federal and state courts, and comfortably handles complex, high profile matters.

In 2005, Amy J. Lepine took up the crusade against corruption in San Diego, leaving private practice, and joining the Civil Division of the City Attorney's office to work with Michael Aguirre. Never one to stand idly on the sidelines, she rolled up her sleeves and got to work on the Pension Strike Force unit.

Amy was forced to leave the office in 2006. She, like so many other citizens of San Diego, feels betrayed by the direction the current City Attorney has taken, exposing her City to outrageous legal costs, potential liability, and no further closer to the goals set in 2004, to end corruption and to reform the political culture in San Diego.

After leaving the City Attorney's office in 2006, Amy started her own law firm, Lepine Law Group, a boutique firm specializing in consumer and family law and financial elder abuse. She has donated a significant portion of her practice to pro bono representation of domestic violence victims, tenants in unlawful detainer actions, and the redevelopment arm of her church, Bethel A.M.E.

Amy is on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Lawyers Club, and chairs the Lawyer's Club Leadership Development Committee. She is a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, a member of its gospel choir, where she was recently featured as a soloist, and is involved with the youth. She also sings in the Martin Luther King Community Choir of San Diego, known for donating its time and talent to worthy community causes, such as recently at a benefit in honor of Black History Month at the Fair Housing Laws & Litigation Conference in February 2008.

An avid longboarder, Amy started surfing as a teenager. She has caught waves in over a dozen countries on several continents. Amy swims with the Different Strokes Swim Team (DSST) here in San Diego, has completed the Rock and Roll Marathon numerous times, and regularly competes in local and national triathlons, and enjoys long distance cycling events.
