| Info | Capt. Olliver Charles "Ollie" Amick
Olliver Charles Amick, 86, died Thursday, April 27, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 30, 1920, at Maiden Rock, Wis., son of Arnold Otto and Delila M. Walsh Amick. He and Betty Jo St. Clair were married March 28, 1948, at Illmo, Mo.
Ollie, along with his long- time friend and partner, Jack T. Burnett, owned and operated Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapels until their retirement in 1990.
He served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star.
Ollie was a member and lay speaker of Illmo United Methodist Church. Ollie was Youth League president 20 years and coached Little League, Connie Mack and American Legion baseball. In 1986 he was inducted into the SEMO Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.
He served on the Illmo-Scott City School Board from 1954-1982 and was chairman of the committee that worked for the consolidation of Illmo and Scott City. He served as state representative of 160th District from 1989-1992.
Ollie was a member of and past commander of VFW Post 6407, member of American Legion Post 369, H.O. Grauel Masonic Lodge, served as past worshipful master and secretary of Illmo Masonic Lodge, and was a member of Scottish Rites and Shriners Club. He was a charter member and past president of Scott City Kiwanis Club and a member of Chaffee Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo; two daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and Ed Taylor of Carrollton, Texas, Sally and Pat O'Brien of Benton, Mo.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Gail Amick and Scott Amick of Scott City, Rand and Cindy Amick of New Madrid, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Kyle (Mindy) Held, Amy (Travis) Pobst, Michael and Amanda O'Brien, Lance and Lindsey Amick, Allison, Clair and Ollivia Amick, and Brandon, Britne, Blake Amick, and Ashley (Carmon) Jackson.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday. There will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the chapel, with Rev. Jim Woeltje officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Memorial Cemetery in Scott City. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Missouri Funeral Honors Team.
Ollie's greatest enjoyments were working with the youth leagues and later watching his grandchildren in everything they did.
