Info | George Lansbury was a British politician, socialist, Christian pacifist and newspaper editor. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1910 to 1912 and from 1922 to 1940, and leader of the Labour Party from 1932 to 1935.
He was a campaigner for social justice and improved living and employment conditions for the working class, especially in London's East End. Lansbury was not afraid to suffer for the causes he advocated for and was twice imprisoned on political charges (1913 and 1921). He was the great-grandfather of the actress Angela Lansbury, the producer Edgar Lansbury, and the animator Oliver Postgate.
