InfoRobert Nowak grew up in North Bennington, Vermont, a small industrial town of 700 people surrounded by mountains and dairy farms. Robert’s childhood was full of Americana: cookouts at the park, music lessons, and Little League. In high school he excelled in both academics and sports, graduating in three years as a National Merit Scholar, winning many ribbons in track and field, and being elected to the All Star soccer team. Robert's fondest memories are of vacations and holidays spent with his grandparents and extended family in Fort Valley, Georgia.

Robert's academic background unlocked his creative abilities for solving complex and detailed issues. He first attended Columbia University where he studied math and physics. He then followed his love for music to the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he obtained his Bachelors of Music degree with honors. Two years later he received his Masters degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music. After graduation, Robert began a wide-ranging career in the music business, teaching at Windham College in Vermont and the University of South Carolina and teaching privately with young musical enthusiasts. Robert's musical talents have allowed him to travel, perform, and listen to Americans from Carnegie Hall to rural gospel churches.

Because of his strong analytical skills, Robert was able to travel and live overseas where he gained real life experience in public policy, diplomacy, and education. Robert lived in Saudi Arabia for 2 years. As a military subcontractor, he wrote the first inventory database for the United States Military Training Mission (Air Force) in Dhahran. His international relations duties included mentoring Saudis, Pakistanis, and South Koreans in database design, creative and collaborative processes, and customer relations. Robert honed his diplomatic and business skills by working one-on-one with prominent Palestinian, Egyptian, and Saudi businessmen.

Robert gained additional international experience when he lived in Northern Ireland. For more than a year, Robert taught math, computer, and technical skills to Northern Ireland students of all ages. The school where Robert taught was often evacuated because of bomb scares. He and his students had to cope daily with roadblocks, check points, and bomb scares. Robert learned firsthand about civil war and terrorism and how they impact the youngest witnesses, children. From his experience in Northern Ireland, Robert learned valuable solutions, both personal and governmental, to fighting terrorism.

When Robert returned to the United States to pursue further studies, his desire to educate children became the most important goal in his life. First he built a successful private music studio. Later he entered the Georgia Teacher Alternative Preparation Program® at Wesleyan College (Macon, GA). Upon receiving his teaching certificate, Robert worked in public schools in Houston and Bibb counties. Robert received Teacher of the Year during his first year at Burdell-Hunt Elementary School in Bibb County. He realized that his students in Bibb County and in Northern Ireland faced similar problems when politics supercedes educational needs. Robert understands firsthand what children need to thrive: a quality, challenging academic experience; safe streets; affordable medical care; and a clean environment.

Robert has always used his musical, community building, and leadership skills to make positive changes in the community. He convened prominent citizens involved in the arts to form a community music school to provide after-school lessons. Robert helped raised awareness on the impact of music on a child's growth and development. While attending Columbia University, he joined the University Tutoring Program and walked forty blocks twice a week to teach third graders. Robert was instrumental in fostering community action when he co-founded and served as the Vice President of the Westerwood Neighborhood Association in Greensboro, North Carolina; where he also taught music to community residents. In Columbia, South Carolina, Robert created and delivered music education lectures to groups of elementary students throughout the State. He was elected Chairman of the Players Committee of the South Carolina Symphony. He has been a volunteer for the Nature Conservancy and political campaigns in Macon, GA and Bronx, NY.

Robert has one daughter, Sinead, who is studying abroad in Ireland.

Robert Nowak offers real world experience that focuses on families and children and their environment, community participation and responsibility, and leadership. He is devoted to understanding the real issues and providing solutions to working families. Robert Nowak is not a career politician with an "I'm the Decider" way of governing. He has always applied practical and logical approaches to achieve measurable results. Robert Nowak believes in community building through community leadership and responsibility. When in Congress, Robert will serve as a voice for all citizens in Georgia's 8th Congressional district by offering positive solutions for a dynamic future.
