| Info | Tom Leighton began his tenure as the Mayor of the City of Wilkes-Barre on January 5, 2004. This elected position follows twelve years of municipal government experience as a Wilkes-Barre City Councilman. Serving as a Councilman has given Mayor Leighton direct involvement in every aspect of City government.
Tom graduated from Bishop Hoban High School and has a Bachelor of Science degree from King's College in Business Administration, which provided him with the educational background to address City issues and to run a very successful business in the City of Wilkes-Barre.
In addition to his public life, beginning in 1982, Mr. Leighton became president in 1996 and owner of C.A. Leighton Company, Inc., a real estate, insurance, and appraisal business located in Downtown Wilkes-Barre since 1921. To fulfill his professional licensing, Mr. Leighton has successfully completed numerous continuing education programs over the years in the field of real estate/appraisal/insurance, and has retained membership in realtor's professional organizations.
The combination of his municipal and business experience has provided him with the knowledge and familiarity to meet the financial and operational challenges he faces as Mayor.
Tom and his wife, Patty have three children, Kelly, Tom Jr., and Courtney. He is the son of (father deceased) Jack and Nancy Leighton. He has three brothers and one sister, John, Brian, Patrick, and Patty.
