InfoAbout Steve
Steve Black is the ideal Democratic candidate for Ohio’s Second Congressional District. Born and raised in Southern Ohio, Steve has dedicated his life to serving individuals and families in the Tri-State region through a variety of causes. Passionate about civic duty, he believes that public service is a patriotic obligation.

A Local Boy
The son of Judge Robert and Helen Black, Steve was born at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati and is the second of three sons. He attended Harvard College for two years, then took a year off to work at a bank in San Francisco and for several months at an Arab Episcopal School for Deaf Children in Beruit, Lebanon. He returned to Harvard College and graduated with high honors in Economics. After he earned a law degree from Harvard Law School, Steve returned to the Midwest to clerk for Judge George Edwards Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Steve remained in the Queen City where for the past 32 years he has practiced law with the firm of Graydon Head & Ritchey LLP.

A Deep Sense of Civic Duty
Steve has long believed in investing in the future of his community. Helping his fellow citizens and their children is a civic duty that he takes very seriously. Steve has served in many leadership positions and on numerous boards. He has acted as the Board Chair of numerous non-profit organizations, including Seven Hills School. He served as a member of the Indian Hill City Council for ten years, and was the Mayor for the last four years of his service. At present, Steve works tirelessly through the Children’s Home of Cincinnati to improve the lives of children and their families facing social, behavioral, and learning challenges. He now sits on the board of our local national historic landmark, the Taft Museum of Art. He helps to foster increased global understanding and awareness through the Global Center of Greater Cincinnati; and he promotes scholarly legal work as a trustee of the Cincinnati Law Library Association.

A Family Man
Steve and Susan, his wife of nearly 30 years, have raised two sons and a daughter. They are active members of The Indian Hill Episcopal- Presbyterian Church, one of only a few successful dual denominations in our country. The Blacks are a gregarious family who are avid conservationists, cyclists, and kayakers. They grow fresh vegetables in their garden on the family farm. Their sixth family member, Scout, likes to chase squirrels.
