Councilor Consalvo is a 1987 graduate of Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury, Massachusetts. He graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science in 1991. Also while at the State House, Rob wrote legislation to improve the quality of life for neighborhood residents, and worked on nine state budgets researching budget issues and drafting budget amendments.

Rob has been and remains very active in his community, continuing to serve as a Corporator at the Hyde Park Savings Bank, and member of the Board of Directors of the Hyde Park Board of Trade and the 54th Regiment, a group honoring the participation of African-Americans in the Civil War. He is also a member of the Hyde Park Lions Club, the Roslindale Sons of Italy, the West Roxbury Elks. and the Sons of the American Legion, and is a Friend of the Hyde Park and Roslindale Branch Libraries.
