Info | Jerome D. Block was born and raised in Espanola, New Mexico where he attended local schools until his high school graduation in 1965.
In 1965 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and volunteered for service in Vietnam, where he served in 1966 and 1967 with engineer units in different areas of the country, and received several citations. Upon his release from the service in 1968, he moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where he attended the College of Santa Fe and worked in the family business.
In 1998 he was elected to the newly-created Public Regulation Commission in District 3 and re-elected in 2000 to a full four-year term. Prior to that, he was elected to the New Mexico State Corporation Commission in 1986 to a six-year term, and re-elected to a second six-year term in 1992. During his tenure as State Corporation Commissioner he served as Chairman. He sat on the State Insurance Board, the State Fire Board, and has served on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission. He is a member of the NARUC Committee on Finance and Technology. He also served as a member of the US West Oversight Committee and has been a member of the NARUC Transportation Committee. He recently completed a term as President and has served as Secretary/Treasurer and Vice President of the NARUC Western Conference. He is a member of the Philippine Energy Partnership Program along with members of the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, and the Philippine Energy Regulatory Board.
Prior to his term as Corporation Commissioner, he was elected to two terms as Santa Fe County Commissioner, having served as Chairman; he also served as a Trustee to the New Mexico Association of Counties, Chairman of the Santa Fe Hospital Indigent Claims Board, Chairman of the Santa Fe Extraterritorial Zoning Authority, Community Development Commission, Retired Senior Volunteer Program Advisory Board, New Mexico Criminal Justice Resource Center, and the Santa Fe Transportation Policy Board.
He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Vietnam Veterans of New Mexico. In 1988 he was presented the "Profile of Courage" Award by the Vietnam Veterans of New Mexico.
In past years he has been a member of many civic and fraternal organizations, having served on numerous fund-raising committees for the United Way, Boy Scouts of America, the Catholic Church and the Santa Fe Babe Ruth League, of which he has served as Vice President of the Board.
Jerome and his wife Patsy have a son, Jerome, a daughter, Jennifer, and grandsons Marcellus and Jeremiah.
