Info | Maureen Reed is proud to be a life-long Minnesotan, growing up in beautiful Redwood Falls and attending the University of Minnesota. Upon graduating from the University's Medical School, she practiced general internal medicine in the Twin Cities for more than two decades, became the president of Aspen Medical Group, and later served as vice-president and medical director of HealthPartners health plan. Because of her deep concern about health care costs, coverage and quality, she ran for lieutenant governor in 2006 for the Independence Party and subsequently participated on Gov. Pawlenty's Health Care Transformation Task Force. As a member of the Medical Reserve Corps, she was deployed in the aftermaths of the 2005 Louisiana Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and the 2007 Interstate 35-W bridge collapse.
Dr. Reed was elected by the State Legislature to the University of Minnesota Board of Regents in 1997 and in 2003, and served as board chair. She has served in many civic roles, including vice president of the University Alumni Association, co-chair of the Nobel Peace Prize Forum, and interim executive director of the Parks and Trails Council of Minnesota.
Her hobbies include swimming, skating and cross-country skiing with her husband, Dr. Jim Hart. They have lived in the city of Grant, just west of Stillwater, ever since their marriage 28 years ago. With no children of their own, they invest their time and love in their nieces and nephews.
Dr. Reed is running for Congress in the 6th District because the challenge of economic growth and health care reform require the immediate attention of someone who is passionate, experienced, collaborative, and ready to work hard to find new solutions.
She listens, thinks and talks-in that order. She's running as a DFLer and knows it is essential to earn support from Independents, moderate Republicans and Democrats ready to send a proven leader to Congress.
