InfoJim Bagnall was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the general election of 1996, re-elected in 2000, and re-elected for his third term in September, 2003, representing the district of Montague-Kilmuir. Before being sworn into Cabinet, Mr. Bagnall served as the Government House Leader, Chair of Government Caucus, Chair of the Legislative Review Committee, and Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts. On March 27, 2006, Mr. Bagnall was appointed Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture.

Mr. Bagnall has previously served as Government Whip and chaired the Special Committee on the Elections Act, and was a member of the Standing Committee on Community Affairs and Economic Development. He has also been a member of the Strategic Planning Committee on Economic Policy, the Legislative Review Committee, the Standing Committees on Agriculture, Forestry and Environment; and Fisheries, Intergovernmental Affairs and Transportation.

Mr. Bagnall graduated from a two-year management training course specializing in chain store operations. He has been involved in retail sales for the past thirty-four years, working for the first seven years with branch store operations and ten years as a manager of a franchise store. In 1985 he purchased that same business, and operated it until 2002.

For over twenty years, Mr. Bagnall has volunteered with community groups such as minor hockey, baseball, Three Rivers Industrial Commission and Community Welfare League. He has been an active Rotarian for the past 19 years, spent six years as Councillor for the Town of Montague, and is a past member of the Board of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Montague.

Mr. Bagnall and his wife, Eileen, reside in Montague and have four children: Doug, Craig, Tara, Tanya; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
